Stone Cold Crazy

I always knew Bush was crazy! Now, we have a book by a clinical psychiatrist that argues the same thing. From today's Washington Post:
[...] "Bush on the Couch," authored by a longtime Washington psychiatrist who has never met or treated the president, offers "an exploration of Bush's psyche" that delves into such touchy topics as his baby sister's death, his relationship with his mother and father and his drinking history.

In the book, to be released Tuesday, Justin A. Frank, a clinical professor at George Washington University Medical Center, claims President Bush exhibits "sadistic tendencies" and suffers from "character pathology," including "grandiosity" and "megalomania" -- viewing himself, America and God as interchangeable. [...]
And the only treatment that will work is an electoral enema in November. It's high time we flushed out the White House.

Mr. Blackwell, I presume...

Here's a great story about French President Chirac leaving his tie off for a couple meetings at the G8 summit.
SEA ISLAND, Ga. (AP) -- In the end, President Jacques Chirac did take off his tie. But it took awhile. The French president stood out from other world leaders during the first few days of the Group of Eight summit by keeping on his tie while others went casual.

But Chirac loosened up as the summit went on, going tie-less for a photo with other leaders sporting open collars as they strolled late Wednesday along a beach.

On Thursday, the three-day summit's last day, Chirac also left behind his tie for a morning one-on-one meeting with President Bush.
What the hell? The leaders of the eight wealthiest industrialized nations in the world get together to discuss God knows what and we get bulllshit stories like this? I probably shouldn't complain. At least it's not another piece of Reagan-fellating fiction that seems to be all the rage right now.

Voters Shift in Favor of Kerry

According to the new LA Timespoll, Kerry holds a 51-44 lead over Bush nationally. We'll see in the coming months how this translates into electoral college votes, as that is the only number that really matters. Ask Al Gore.

Sometimes I wonder why Kerry isn't leading by 20 points and then I read stuff like this:
Michelle Mann, a stay-at-home mother in Oklahoma City, said she saw Bush as "a resolute man, and he is doing what he firmly believes is the right thing to do" without worrying about political consequences or reactions from other nations.
What!?! Every decision that comes out of the Bush White House is made with politics and his re-election campaign in mind. It's true that he hasn't worried about other nations' reactions, Michelle. That's called unilateralism. A strategy that hasn't really worked out that well in the past. Which is exactly why we usually stick to the alliance system. You know, the system that won both World Wars and the Cold War.

Since voters like Michelle seem to be drawn to Bush's platitudes masquerading as wisdom I've got a few for you:

#1 If it ain't broke don't fix it. (Unilateralism is bad.)
#2 You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. (Don't illegally invade other countries and tell them what to do at gun point. Diplomacy usually works.)
And most importantly:
#3 Just say no. (Seriously, Michelle. Put down the crack pipe.)
